Utopia - Car Crash scene Making Of
More information: thomasenglish.co.uk
For DoP Ole Birkeland; Alf Tremontin and I got to do plenty of Steadicam on this cult series "Utopia" but this shot I got to shoot is truly awesome! The car crash itself was shot with a RED epic in the back of a car and genuinely crashed as you see on camera. I was then tasked with reaching the MK-V AR rig into the middle of the car and matching the crash cams frame for a VFX takeover. Then trying to pull the camera out of the car smoothly and covering the gruesome shooting sequence in one take whilst making full use of the AR's considerable boom. The final takes with squids the camera went far wider and far lower.
We had the door removed from the car. ...

Camera Tests with Playstation Move in Steadicam MK-V AR rig for Projection Mapping
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.12 лет назад
Some initial camera testing, whilst tweaking the system, we were doing to get camera tracking data using a Playstation Move to real time render perspective correct projection mapping. This was for a project called "Most Insane Immersive Movie Experience EVER". The Playstation Move, attached to the camera, was accurate enough to feed camera tracking data, as to where the camera was and pointing ...

Просмотров 4,3 тыс.13 лет назад
This is the making-off of a music video we shot. Sam Pilling directed it at Pulse Films for Wretch 32. The track is called "Anniversary". You can watch the full music video here: www.promonews.tv/2011/02/28/wretch-32s-anniversary-by-sam-pilling/ We used a Canon 7D mounted on the Steadicam Tango. A 25mm Compact Prime CP2 was the lens used throughout the video. You can see more here: www.thomasen...

P+S Technik Freestyle 3D Rig for Steadicam and Handheld
Просмотров 83 тыс.14 лет назад
So this is the lightweight 3D mirror rig from P S Technik called the "Freestyle 3D Rig" developed by Philippe Bordelais. Its great for Steadicam! It turned up on a Satchler Artemis sled which worked well. I promptly placed it on my MK-V sled which coincidentally was pretty much balanced immediately, once tweaked it flew great. Later on it was tried on a Steadicam Ultra 2 and was fine. Its very ...

I love the contrast between the bright world of utopia and the sadly mute reality
In the film "Le Mans", Steve McQueen spent the whole budget on filming car sequences from every possible angle, that's why the film have very little dialogue or human story line.
oh that was you bravo sir
2020 watching 3D rigs from 2010
ITT: people who know nothing about filmmaking.
Dammn good ,Best show I have ever watched :)
love this BTS footage! super cool, thanks :)
Nice shot
brilliant walk it looks like his legs are a robot
wtf is that operator
Lmao how the hell do you edit the film xD. And how much is this camera?
What in the world are you using measuring type in front of the camera lens and actors for?
Henry Zhinin They're shooting film, which has rudimentary monitoring solutions. If you'll notice, the focus puller isn't pulling off a monitor. He has to eyeball the distance between camera and subject.
killer rig, but still pretty shaky footage
film is the best video format, i mean film format, 35mm is equivalent to 8k digital aprox
HAHAHAHA what a joke! 35mm doesnt even come close to 2k digital
Rebassed please read wikipedia
Rebassed Better luck trolling next time...
Not just IMAX, you mean IMAX 70mm, there is also Digital IMAX
Why shoot film? It's so expensive?
like 10k
those cameras still shoot on film?
What if you go to the supermarket and you'll be attacked by a wild dog? It's part of the job ;-)
TBC that's too funny...all though I would rather pop advil instead of getting another "hurt" from a manipulator with a "Phd"...
how much the tango!?
Can I see the result?
they are dancing..the man with the camera..
what the shit was this?
where you having fun?
FK ME!!!! THATS AWESOME!!!!
what about focus? or is it the lens stopped down a lot
There is a guy behind running with a wireless follow focus
are those 2 ex 1 r `s ? sweet rig ... question there: you panned your monitor around in the video, but it didnt seem to have effect on the balance of the rig, for me , if i go up side down and readjust the monitor , the rig "moves" , and seems out of balance. any solutions. would be a blast .... thanks alot for the time to help !
wow... just don't fall ok ;)
@sexyremi EXACTLY !!! Age concern arrange tea dances ect for old folk while the poverty stricken pensioners who are desperate for help are left to it. Age UK suck and don't deserve charity status.
incredible
useful info. thanks for the vid.
Hah, at first I thought you were in some empty warehouse to test, then i saw Steve from Cmotion then realised you were in a disused loading bay at earls court hah
I don't get it. Istill can't see the axis holding the seemingly floating camera. Can anybody help please? -ET
@MrThomasEnglish and during editing the editors can flip the footage 360 degrees so it then looks low and normal
WOW I absolutely LOVE this ad!!!!!!!!! :) xx
i want one want want want want want want want! those are awesome cameras!
@bdaveshaw 50 lbs. but the Steadicam system allows for long hours of work, with not harm at all
this looks so ultra professional... ^^ love it

your vest seems ill-fitting, anyways i prefer front-mounted vests
@dijonmustardman Different directors work in different ways. Actually for a dynamic sequence like this we are pretty much doing normal coverage here.
@coolmanak It is a lot quicker and lazier going upside down for low mode. On some productions it is suitable. You can't do it if they are going for a neg cut but that is rare nowadays. I personally reckon on less vibrations in upside down low-mode only because of how shonky a lot of low mode brackets are.
@bdaveshaw The price of the total system.... is a lot.
@coolmanak Yes, you can get it into Dynamic Balance but it is tricky. As you can see here it is not in Dynamic balance. In 3D we don't whip pan or do anything particularly quickly so you can get away without DB but.... its always better in DB
Yeah, the payload is an issue. If you want to use a heavier camera the MK-V AR is the solution. Cameras are getting lighter.
Nice work, it's very interesting tool. I just wish it could take a larger payload....curious to see more shots with it.
can you get these at sams club?
@coolmanak I have never gotten it to dynamic.....it's too front heavy..
@bdaveshaw did u ever get a price and weight spec?
Great Tomas.
